Why it sparks inspiration

Family engagement is essential for fostering a culturally responsive and supportive environment for children's development. This toolkit equips programs with practical tools to assess and enhance their engagement with diverse families, helping educators strengthen connections and understanding across cultures. It includes a self-assessment across 22 indicators to guide reflection and improvement, along with strategies and a framework to improve collaboration with families and communities. By using this toolkit, you can build stronger, more inclusive relationships that honor and uplift the cultural identities of the children and families in your care!

"You and your program are in a unique position to promote children’s wellbeing. You can do this – today and into the future – by engaging their parents and families."

How it can inspire your practice

  • Educators can use the self-assessment tool to reflect on their current family engagement efforts and identify goals and approaches to better connect with and support families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Program leaders can use the toolkit to foster ongoing dialogue with families, promoting collaboration and ensuring that cultural values and practices are respected and integrated into the learning environment.
