Why it sparks inspiration
How can child care centres make policy, programming, and practice decisions that are culturally responsive? This brief report explores how centres can incorporate cultural understanding to support Indigenous and newcomer families. Using case studies, it provides examples of culturally responsive practices such as employing multilingual staff, using pedagogical documentation, and integrating Indigenous teachings into programming. As one of five resources for program leaders, this report helps create a learning environment that fosters belonging, builds trust, and respects the cultural identities of children and families.
"Centres must take the initiative to learn about families’ culture, values, and experiences to create a childcare environment that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to all."
